Sacha’s role in Cricket Actually

Cricket Shropshire’s Community Officer Sacha Lee is featured in the ECB’s new Cricket Actually documentary.

Filming for the video was completed during the summer of 2022, and features Sacha in her role promoting cricket in areas which would not normally have the opportunity to get involved in the game.

Sacha said: “I am incredibly proud to see Shropshire represented in this ECB video.

“We are excited to say that since filming 18 months ago, we now offer six Chance to Shine Street projects across Shropshire and numerous community events in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council, Energize and Shropshire Council.

“We have an ever-growing, inclusive community offer, with all of our coaches striving for positive change in disadvantaged areas around our large rural county.

“Our new County Pathway Development structure is now offering opportunities for many more children and young people to access development of skills.

“We will continue to push forward in creating an inclusive environment where equity is the norm in a game we all love.”

Lead Officer Steve Reece said: “The diversity of our work has changed so much and particularly since the pandemic, the delivery and promotion of the benefits of the game are far reaching and nothing more so than in our Communities Offer and Disability Offer.

“Having dedicated staff to focus in these areas which we were previously unable to serve gives greater enrichment to our delivery team and the Board as a whole.

“It was a major element in our County Partnership Agreement (contract) with the ECB that we would evolve our areas of deprivation and this began small in Great Dawley but has expanded to all parts of the county.

“We have also been able to organise camps for those clubs who have struggled to encourage local children to get involved because of perceived barriers.

“Working with the network and their engagement to EDI has enabled a number of clubs to breath new life into their clubs whether through new children, women and girls or both.”

“The team led by Sacha will continue to look for opportunities for individuals who may otherwise not have had an opportunity to pick up a bat or bowl a ball.

“We want to make cricket the most welcoming team sport whether in a traditional cricket club or in your local MUGA.”
