Spring Softball festival a big hit

A record 20 teams took part in Cricket Shropshire’s Women’s Softball Spring festival on the all-weather surface at Shrewsbury School.

And the sun actually shone on the day hosted on the new surface at the school.

The 20 teams were from fifteen clubs including Pontesbury, Allscott Heath, Wem, Bomere Heath, Albrighton, Brummies CC, Renegades, Newport, Shelton, Condover, Forton, Whittington, Frankton, Ellesmere and Willey.

Cricket Shropshire’s Women & Girls’ Officer Katie Rushton said: “Teams attended in three sessions throughout the day, playing against each other in 6 a side pairs matches.

“Players were not just involved in playing this time round but also officiating their own matches.

“Thank you to the team captains and managers for arranging teams for the event and the friends, family and coaches that supported the officiating on the day.

“The festival provides teams an opportunity to transition from the indoor league matches back to the outdoors, particularly this season when teams have struggled to get back out on the field due to the poor weather.

“It was fantastic to see so many teams involved this year, finally enjoying playing outdoors in the sun. It also provided the ladies an ideal opportunity to get involved and gain confidence with both scoring and umpiring.”
