Young Ambassadors 2024 launched

This year’s Young Ambassadors programme for 2024 has been launched.

This year’s cohort of 11 youngsters attended their initial training session organised by Cricket Shropshire during the May half-term

The day included training in First Aid, a Young Officials Qualification and the National Programme Activator Course.

The first element of the training was the First Aid Course, kindly delivered by Edufit 4 Training.

This involved multiple elements including CPR, how to use an AED, chocking and recovery position.

Programme organiser Katie Rushton said: “All of the Young Ambassadors engaged well and practiced the skills they had learnt.”

This was followed by the Young Officials qualification, which involved testing their existing knowledge of the role of officials, the scoring and umpiring signals and rules of cricket.

Katie said: “All the Young Ambassadors interacted well and improved their knowledge on all aspects of officiating.”

Finally, everyone completed the National Programmes Activator training.

This involved understanding the aims and philosophy of the All Stars and Dynamos programmes, their roles as an Activator, gaining an understanding of safeguarding and being able to support the delivery of and adapting the activities involved in the programme.

The practical element gave the Young Ambassadors the opportunity to put their coaching skills to the test working in small groups to deliver activities and explain how they could amend and progress them, depending on the needs of the children they are working with.

Katie added: “The Young Ambassadors have now been tasked with completing twenty hours of volunteer activity at their cricket clubs over the summer.

“This can be coaching juniors, officiating matches or festivals, or helping with any other activity requiring support at their club. We will be recognising the hard work and effort of the Young Ambassadors during the Autumn.

“A big thank you to Edufit 4 Training’s Mark Donovan and Craig Stockman. We look forward to seeing what the Young Ambassadors get involved in at their club and recognising their efforts in the Autumn.”
