Women’s XI relish Grace Road trip

Cricket Shropshire’s Women’s XI are relishing the chance to play at a First Class county venue when they travel to Leicestershire on Sunday in the Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup.

They travel to Uptonsteel Grace Road on the back of last weekend’s two victories in their opening games of the season against Norfolk.

There is one change to the winning squad with Freya Jones coming in for Aamna Khan who is unavailable this week.

Skipper Lara Jones said: “After a strong start to the season, we’re hoping to take this momentum and get a win in the first round of the cup.

“It’s a great opportunity to be playing at Grace Road and all the girls are looking forward to it.”

Coach Naomi Payne added: “After a successful first round of fixtures in the league, we’ve shown what we’re capable of but we’re obviously hungry for more.

“With the quality of players we have and the spirit in which we play our cricket, we head into our cup game at Leicestershire full of confidence and belief.

“It will be a tough test for the women, but with that belief in our skills and togetherness, we’re aiming for a successful outcome.”

Squad: Lara Jones (c), Kate Brazier, Isabelle Crann, Freya Jones, Millie Parry, Isabella Lawrence Posso, Shriya Sastry, Harriet Shuker, Olivia Smith, Libby Snowdon, Libby Thomas (wk), Cerys Tippings
