Women’s XI claim two T20 wins against Norfolk

Cricket Shropshire’s Women’s XI launched their 2026 campaign with two wins in their T20 double header against Norfolk at Allscott Heath CC.

It was a pleasing performance for skipper Lara Jones who saw contributions from a number of players across the two games to help claim the victories.

Lara said: “It was great I start off the season with two strong wins.

“Everyone in the team contributed throughout the day and we’ll be aiming to take this momentum into our cup match on Sunday.”

Shropshire travel to Grace Road on Sunday to take on Leicestershire in the Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup.

The first game on Sunday saw Lara win the toss and ask the visitors to bat first.

Opening bowler Kate Brazier picked up an early wicket, and after a half century partnership Jones (2-11) and Aamna Khan (2-17) got amongst the wickets to slow the scoring rate.

Millie Parry chipped in with an economical 1-14 from her four overs as Norfolk were restricted to 116-7 from their 20 overs.

Opener Cerys Tippings dominated the reply for Shropshire, hitting 58 from just 38 deliveries with three boundaries and three maximums.

Shropshire reached their victory target in the 15th over with Khan unbeaten on 19.

Norfolk won the toss for the afternoon game and elected to bat first but struggled to break the shackles through the innings.

Khan was again the top performer with the ball claiming 4-16 while Isabelle Crann took 2-17 as Norfolk were bowled out for 119 in the final over of the innings.

In the reply, Libby Snowdon hit 36, Olivia Smith 33 and Shriya Sastry was unbeaten on 20 from just 13 balls as Shropshire sealed victory in the 18th over for the loss of four wickets.

Thanks to the umpires, scorers and all at Allscott Heath for hosting us on the day.
