Under 18s in two-day win against Herefordshire
Cricket Shropshire’s Under 18s claimed a five-wicket victory when they took on Herefordshire in a two innings, two-day game at Eastnor CC.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Hugo Lowther hit 47, Harry Turley-Salmons 32 and Dylan Barkley 29 as Shropshire reached 137-6.
But then a 110-run seventh wicket partnership between Matthew Morris (75 off 60 balls) and Ollie Dyson (68 not out) helped give the innings impetus.
Dyson also shared a 60-run partnership with wicket-keeper Bertie Kyte (41 off 42) as Shropshire boosted their total to 337-8 before declaring.
The bowlers then got to work with Morris claiming two early wickets before spinner Ralph Davies claimed 4-16 and skipper Jack Shields chipped in with 2-32 as the hosts were dismissed for 155.
Herefordshire were asked to follow on and fared better in their second innings despite an early run out.
But Ollie Dyson got to work claiming 4-56 with the other bowlers all chipping in as they were dismissed for 246.
That left Shropshire with a modest target for victory which they reached with Alex Heath hitting 26 off 15 balls despite the loss of five wickets.
The Under 16 Boys also enjoyed a trip to Herefordshire when they beat their hosts by 138 runs at Brockhampton.
Batting first, Dyson (pictured above) hit 103 off 95 balls, Jake Adams 60 off 45, Harry Harrison 34 off 19 and Oliver Mee was 28 not out off just 11 balls at the end of the innings as Shropshire finished their 40 overs on 298-8.
In the reply, the early wickets were shared around and then George Jenkins claimed 3-25 and Bobby Langton 2-12 as Herefordshire were bowled out for 160.
The Under 12 EEP Combined side beat Worcestershire at Church Stretton in an entertaining friendly.
The visitors batted first and were bowled out for 155 with Jack Stekic claiming 3-20, Eli Allen 2-30 and Harvey Miller 2-44.
Opener William Arran led the way in the reply with an unbeaten 50 before he retired, and James Quin hit 42 as Shropshire claimed the win by seven wickets.
The Under 13 Boys claimed a fine win when hosted Worcestershire in a friendly at Cound CC led by a devastating opening bowling display from Oliver Evans.
Batting first, Jayden Joseph top scored with 62, Joseph Duckett made 44, Elliott Weaver 32 and Adam Humpreys 28 as Shropshire finished their 45 overs on 239-6.
In the reply, Evans ripped out the Worcestershire top order claiming 5-7 from five overs as they were reduced to 20-5.
Charlie Prince and Hridhaan Golar then claimed two wickets apiece as Worcestershire were dismissed for 58.
The return fixture at Jewry Field was also affected by the weather – but Shropshire again came out on top.
Opener Kyle Rudge hit 105, Weaver 68 and Rory Evans 32 as Shropshire made 266-6 from their 40 overs.
An interruption meant Worcestershire had a revised target of 214 from 28 overs, but there were dismissed for 117 with Joseph claiming 2-12, Rafay Rehman and Duckett 2-15 and Joseph Stanton 2-20.
They Under 11s EEP South side were not so fortunate when they hosted Worcestershire at Pontesbury.
The visitors batted first and finished their 40 overs on 285-3. In the Shropshire reply, Charlie Murray hit an unbeaten 75 as Shropshire were bowled out for 177.
