U11s to get involved with Red for Ruth fundraiser
It’s a red alert for Cricket Shropshire’s Under 11 Boys when they take part in the Red for Ruth day organised by the Ruth Strauss Foundation at their next fixture.
Their game against Derbyshire Under 11s at Bomere Heath on July 11 coincides with the national Red for Ruth day taking place as part of the Lord’s Test match between England and the West Indies.
The Shropshire link up with the Ruth Strauss Foundation was suggested by Kate Rudge whose son Kyle plays for Shropshire Under 11s.
She said: “My brother sadly died last summer far too young after a battle with cancer – he was a keen sportsman and chose the Ruth Strauss Foundation to be supported in his memory. I’m incredibly grateful to cricket Shropshire for supporting the cause at this fixture.
“On the day we will be asking the boys to wear something red, running a cricket themed raffle with prizes including a £20 Fearnley Shop voucher, a Ruth Strauss Foundation red bucket hat, and a box of cricket balls kindly donated by Shrewsbury School.”
The boys will also be encouraged to take part in the Foundation’s #BucketHatChallenge – filming an attempt to flick the bucket hat from their feet on to their heads to post on social media. (Perhaps you would like a go: https://ruthstraussfoundation.com/events/redforruth-2024/
Cricket Shropshire Coach Darrell Corfield said: “We are more than happy to be a part of the Red for Ruth day at our Under 11s game on July 11 and are looking forward to being part of the event this year.”
