Three out of four for U11 Boys
Cricket Shropshire’s Under 11 boys enjoyed three wins out of four games recently – including a thrilling four-run victory when they took on Warwickshire Under 11 Bears at Pontesbury CC.
Batting first in the opening game of the day, they finished their 20 overs on 101-6 with Edward Martin hitting 32 and James Scattergood 29.
In reply they restricted the Bears to 97-7 with Jamie Chambers claiming 2-11 and Elliot Weaver 2-15.
But the second game of the day went the way of the Bears, who batted first and were bowled out for 102 with Gabe Hanratty, Chambers and Alfie Hardy all claiming two wickets apiece. In the reply, Martin made 41 but the rest of the batters failed to support him as he saw his side dismissed for 67.
In their next games, they then took on Herefordshire at Ludlow CC’s The Burway in two T20s and claimed victorty in both.
In the first game, the visitors won the toss and chose to bat first and were restricted to 77-9 from their 20 overs with opening bowlers Eoin Lloyd and Jayden Joseph claiming three wickets each and Billy Anders two.
In reply, Shropshire reached their victory target for the loss of four wickets with Karl Rudge hitting 35 and George Lowther 21.
In the second game Shropshire batted first and were restricted to 80-7 from their 20 overs, with opener Adam Humphreys top-scoring with 26.
Lowther then starred with the ball in the reply, claiming impressive figures of 5-8 from his four overs while Edward Martin chipped in with two wickets as Herefordshire were dismissed for 50.
Sophia Parton led the way with bat and ball for Cricket Shropshire’s Under 13 Girls against Cricket North Wales in two games at Whittington CC.
She hit 63 off just 60 balls as her side batted first in the first game of the day and finished on 127-5 from their 20 overs.
The Cricket North Wales girls finished 18 runs short in the chase on 109-5 with Daisy Hogan claiming 2-15 and Parton 2-6.
In the second game, Shropshire again batted first and this time skipper Elizabeth Daniels-Sanders led the way with an unbeaten 52 while Morgan Scott hit 24 as Shropshire made 108-3 from 16 overs.
In the reply, Matilda McBain claimed 3-10 and Parton and Hogan two wickets apiece as North Wales finished their chase on 88-8, 20 runs short of their target.
The Under 18 Girls enjoyed a 102-run victory when they entertained Cumbria at Whitchurch CC.
Batting first, they racked up an impressive 290 before being bowled out in the 50th over, with Amy Griffiths leading the way with 75, Lauren Kenvyn hitting 42 and Esther Hurford 34.
In reply, Cumbria were dismissed for 188 with Freya Jones, Hurford, Griffiths and Millie Parry all claiming two wickets apiece.
Shropshire’s Women’s XI struggled when they travelled to Derbyshire in their latest fixture in their 50-over campaign.
The hosts batted first at Spondon CC and made 297-8 from their 50 overs, Freya Jones claiming three wickets and Kate Brazier and Lauren Kenvyn two apiece.
The Shropshire reply failed to get going and they were bowled out for 113 despite Ava Clive making 40 and Brazier 24.
The Under 14 Boys were bowled out for 114 when they hosted Staffordshire at Oswestry CC, Luca Evans hitting 30 and Ralph Conrwell unbeaten on 35. Staffs knocked off the runs for the loss of two wickets.
The Under 16 Boys suffered similar batting woes when they hosted Staffordshire, this time at Whitchurch CC. Batting first, the visitors were dismissed for 150 with Will Walker claiming 4-39, Jason Joseph 2-20 and Ryan Cumming 2-16. But Shropshire were then dismissed for 72 with only Walker (24) passing 20.
The Under 18 Boys also found the going tough when they hosted Northamptonshire at Shrewsbury CC.
The visitors enjoyed batting first and finished on 381 before they were bowled out in the 50th over, Jacob Binnersley, Matthew Kenvyn and Alex Heath all claiming three wickets.
The reply didn’t go to plan as they were dismissed for 99, Henry Walker top scoring with 28.
