Shifnal have been crowned Wrekin 8s Indoor Cricket League champions after beating Grasshoppers in the final.

In the final, defending champions Grasshoppers batted first and were dismissed for 71 with Lewis Evans top scoring with 25 and Chad Brandrick taking 3-16.

Shifnal reached their victory target for the loss of two wickets with an over to spare to claim the title with Michael Robinson hitting 25 and Chris Murrall unbeaten on 26.

Earlier, they had reached the final by beating Quatt in their semi-final. Batting first, Shifnal made 91-8 from their eight overs with Robinson unbeaten on 55 and Scott Furber taking three wickets.

In reply, Quatt were restricted to 59-3 despite Ryan Wheldon hitting 31 to give Shifnal victory by 32 runs.

In the other semi-final, Hoppers (pictured left) eased to a 40-run victory over St Georges. Batting first, Evans again led the way with the bat, hitting 29 as they finished their eight overs on 91-5.

In reply, the Dragons were dismissed for 51 with Andy Harrison claiming 2-13.

This season’s competition, which started in October, featured 12 teams – Grasshoppers, Wrekin College, Shifnal, Quatt, Lilleshall, Harpers, Newport, Cae Glas, Wellington, Albrighton and two teams from St Georges.

They were split into two pools of six teams with the top two from each progressing through to the Finals Night.

Organiser Katie Rushton said: “The league proved very popular this year and we had to close entries with 12 teams to allow us to complete the fixtures in the allotted time.

“Congratulations to Shifnal and well done to all the teams that entered, it has been fantastic to see new teams getting involved in 2024.

“Thank you to Wrekin College for hosting and Colin Wetherley-Mein for officiating the finals. We look forward to running the competition, once again in 2025.”
