Shelton claim Women’s indoor softball crown

Congratulations to Shelton who claimed the Women’s Strategic Leisure Softball East Indoor League crown with victory over Condover at Finals Night at Wrekin College.

They were one of 12 teams taking part in this year’s competition split into two groups of six for the competition with the winners and runners-up from each group progressing to the Finals Night.

In the final, Condover batted first setting a score of 242- 3, with Caitlin and Jenny top scoring. Shelton’s bowled consistently backed up by good fielding to and take wickets and limit the Condover batters.

In response, the Condover bowlers battled hard, however the Shelton top scorers Holly, Stacy and Sophie R led the team to victory as they finished on a total score of 253 without losing any wickets. 

Shelton qualified for Finals Night as Group A winners and saw off Group B winners Pontesbury in the first semi-final of the evening.

They batted first setting a target of 232. Pontesbury bowled and fielded well taking four wickets via run outs and catches. 

Pontesbury batters set to chasing the target with Emma top scoring with 13, but a strong bowling display from Shelton restricted Pontesbury to a total of 224, meaning Shelton claimed the win by just eight runs.

Condover reached the final thanks to a dominant batting performance against Allscott Heath. They finished their innings on 277 without losing a wicket. Despite economical bowling from Gemma and Emma, big contributions from Jenny, Caitlin and Claire helped set the imposing total.

The Condover bowlers then limited the Allscott Heath batters to 208-5 as they eased to victory. 

In the third-place play-off, Pontesbury batted first setting a target of 247, with Emma and Beth top scoring. Emma and Amy topped the bowling performances, with one over for three and seven runs respectively. 

Tight bowling from Pontesbury then restricted Allscott Heath to a final score of 212. 

Teams taking part in this year’s competition were: Albrighton, Condover, Shelton, Shrewsbury, Allscott Heath, Pontesbury, Willey, Broseley, Madeley, Newport, Forton and a Renegades side. 

Organiser Katie Rushton said: “We had an overwhelming response to the competition this year and had to limit clubs to one team per club to ensure there were space for all clubs to be involved.
