Schools make Midlands semi-finals

Two Shropshire schools have reached the Midlands semi-finals of their national competitions.

In the ESCA U15 One Day Cup, Shrewsbury School totally outplayed visitors Bromsgrove School, winning by 180 runs.

Meanwhile Haberdashers Adams, Newport, won a low scoring match at Denstone College in the ESCA David English Under 13 competition.

Shrewsbury batted first against Bormsgrove and scored 297-5 off their 35 overs.

Openers Gurjeevan Singh Athwal (58 off 34 balls) and Bryan Mudalige (131 not out off 106) put on 84 for the first wicket in just 11 overs.

Jack Swalow (72 off 55) helped Mudalige add 145 for the fourth wicket.

In reply, Bromsgrove had no answer to the excellent Shrewsbury bowing attack and were dismissed for 117 in 27 overs with Hugo Bebb claiming four wickets and Sayak Mukahjee and Oscar Howarth two each.

Shrewsbury will host Oundle in the semi-final.

In their game, Adams (pictured above) batted first and were dismissed for just 73 in the 24th over mainly due to excellent seam bowling by the Denstone bowlers. Luke Sidaway (35) and Seth Healy (25) were the standout batsmen.

However, equally fine bowling from the four Adams bowlers saw Denstone dismissed for 42 in the 19th over. Hriday Patel (2-9), Luke Sidaway (2-13), Alex Sidaway (3-9) and Anirvin Garimella (3-7) were the successful bowlers.

Adams now visit Bromsgrove School in the semi-final.
