Runs galore as U15 Boys claim win

Cricket Shropshire’s Under 15s secured a 15-run victory over Cricket Wales North in a high scoring encounter at Colwyn Bay CC.

Skipper Will Walker chose to bat first when he won the toss, and despite losing a couple of early wickets, the decision was soon justified by the batters.

Opener Finn Jones top scored with 75 from 65 balls, Rufus Drake hit 68 off 57, Jake Van Custem 68 off 65 and the skipper chipped in with 20 as his side finished their 45 overs on 290-8.

The Welsh batters also enjoyed themselves on the Colwyn Bay surface but the Shropshire bowlers and fielders stuck to their task to restrict their hosts to 275-4.

Wicket-keeper Will Parkinson-Witte’s unbeaten 64 off 71 balls helped Shropshire Under 14s to a three-wicket victory over Cricket Wales North at Mold CC.

The Welsh side won the toss and batted first, but were kept in check as Charlie Weldon picked up the wickets of both openers on his way to figures of 4-15 as he also mopped up the tail.

In between, Ollie Mee claimed 4-26 from his six overs and George Davies executed a couple of run outs as the Welsh side were dismissed for 183.

In the reply, opener Lakmin Illeperuma hit 37 before Parkinson-Witte made sure of victory despite wickets falling at the other end as Shropshire claimed victory in the 37th over.

They came unstuck when they took on Leicestershire in a rain-affected game at Ratcliffe College. Batting first, they were dismissed for 107 with Illeperuma top-scoring with 16.

He then picked up two wickets, but the Foxes reached their victory target four down.

The Under 13 Boys beat Presfelde School by 23 runs in a warm-up T20 game ahead of their competitive season.

They batted first and made 114-5 with Harry Dillon stop scoring with 25 and Harry Harrison hitting 20 from 14 balls. Presfelde were then restricted to 91-5 from their 20 overs with Freddie Barker the pick of the bowlers with 1-3 from three overs.

The Under 18s struggled when they played Herefordshire and Oxfordshire in T20 games at Eastnor, losing both games.

All other Age Group games featuring both the Boys and Girls’ sides were cancelled due to the weather.
