Forton tame the Dragons in Furrows league thriller

Forton edged home for a win with a ball to spare against defending champions St Georges in a thrilling finish in the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-Week League.

In a game reduced to 18 overs a side due to the weather, the Dragons batted first and finished on 141-6, mainly thanks to Jagdeep Singh’s unbeaten 53.

Noah Hardie led the Forton attacking claiming 2-22.

Skipper Joe Roberts his 27 in the reply at the top of the innings before James DuBoulay hit a run a ball 42 to keep Forton in the hunt.

But he was run out off the fourth ball of the last over with the scores level, leaving it to Avneesh Sakremath to get the winning run off the fifth ball.

It is the first time St Georges have lost in the league, having remained unbeaten claiming last year’s title.

In Division Two, Wheaton Aston claimed the win in a high scoring game against visitors Albrighton.

Batting first, Albrighton finished their 20 overs on 159-4 with Sam Wood hitting an unbeaten 55 and Alex Chavasse-Thornton 38.

S Chick was the pick of the Wheaton Aston attack, claiming 3-17 from his four overs.

Adam Lawley led the way in the reply with an unbeaten 53 off just 27 balls, S Pedley hit 23 and skipper J Marson was unbeaten on 32 as Wheaton Aston claimed the win with 13 balls to spare.

Codsall eased to victory against visitors Lilleshall by nine wickets.

Batting first, Mark Binfield hit 27 as Lilleshall were restricted to 81-9 from their 20 overs with Ben Walley, Chris Boucher and Naveed Khan all claiming two wickets.

Codsall knocked off the winning runs for the loss of just one wicket with Karandeep Singh Aulakh unbeaten on 35 and Monti Kunner hitting 20.

Other games have been rearranged due to the weather.
