Cricket Shropshire signs up to Armed Services Covenant
Cricket Shropshire is delighted to announce it has signed up to the Armed Services Covenant.
The signing ceremony was held in Shrewsbury recently as the Board joined more than 300 organisations across Shropshire to sign up.
The decision to sign the Covenant follows discussions held with Shropshire County Council’s Sport, Physical Activity, and Environment Co-Ordinator Sean McCarthy after a Summer Camp the Board delivered at RAF Shawbury in the Summer.
Each organisation which has signed up agrees to a number of pledges – including allowing any staff who are reservists to have paid time off to carry out training or military activity.
Cricket Shropshire has also agreed to build our own set of pledges which include:
- Support military staff (current and veterans) with discounts off any ECB coaching course they may wish to do.
- Give subsidies to children of any military personnel who are part of our Pathway
- Deliver a two-day Summer Camp at one of the military sites in Shropshire.
Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “We are really pleased to sign up to the Covenant. We also recognise it could open up additional mutually beneficial opportunities as the relationship and awareness grows over the coming years.”
There are already links with the military in Shropshire cricket – Oswestry CC hold regular events for veterans and act as a hub in their area.
