Bequest to help train new umpires
A bequest from a former Shropshire League umpire will help train new officials in the county.
The Shropshire Association of Cricket Officials (SACO) paid tribute to former colleague Tony Jones at their meeting this week.
Tony was a regular umpire in the Shropshire League for more than 11 years back in 1990s – and he left a donation to SACO in his will.
SACO Secretary Andy Johnson said: “Tony was a popular umpire and a big character who would often be seen officiating in Premier League matches.
“He very kindly left SACO a donation of £500 from his estate. It has been agreed that SACO will use this money to support new umpires through the ECB Umpiring Course and into umpiring in Shropshire.
“Thank you to Tony, and rest in peace.”
