Condover claim indoor title
Condover claimed the first silverware of the Autumn Women & Girls Winter Programme when they claimed the Shrewsbury School-based Strategic Leisure Women’s Softball Indoor League title.
Twelve teams took place in this year’s competition which followed on from a busy Summer of activity – Condover, Willey, Frankton Foxes, Shrewsbury, Elles Belles, Shelton, Bomere Bullets, Oswestry, Pontesbury, Broseley Bombshells, Forton and Cound.
The teams competed in two pools at the Indoor Cricket Centre at Shrewsbury School during a six-week period with the top two teams from each group qualifying for Finals night – Pontesbury, Shelton, Willey and Condover.
Pontesbury took on Condover in the first semi-final with Condover losing the toss and being put into bat.
They managed 221-3 thanks to top scorers Jenny and Caitlin despite some strong bowling from the Pontesbury attack. In the reply, Condover took early wickets and restricted their opponents to 202-5 to claim the victory and progress.
The second semi-final saw Willey lose the toss against Shelton and they found themselves batting first, reaching 223-3 with joint top scorers Cara and Jodie. For Shelton, Stacy took 2-8 from two overs while Holly claimed 1-4 from her over.
Shelton then made on 229 for the loss of just one wicket to progress through to the final.
Pontesbury took the spoils against Willey in the third-place play off, hitting 216-1 in reply to Willey’s 204-5
Shelton batted first in the Final and finished on 239-2 with Deb and Jess top scoring. But Condover replied with an impressive 249 without losing a wicket with notable performances from Caitlin and Amber to claim the title.
Competition organiser Katie Rushton said: “It was a great competition this year with some fantastic close games throughout. It was great to see so many teams and ladies get involved and have the opportunity to play at the first-class facility at Shrewsbury School.
“Huge thanks to Shrewsbury School for hosting the competition and Rachel Fowler from Strategic Leisure for her continued sponsorship support which enables us to deliver activity like this for the teams.
“Also a big thank you to Richard and Steve Reese for officiating on Finals Night.”
