Umpiring and scoring awards call
The Shropshire Association of Cricket Officials (SACO) will once again stage an Awards Evening after the end of the season – and they are looking for nominations for their awards.
It will be held at St Georges Cricket Club in Telford, and this year the date is Wednesday, October 14.
SACO Secretary Andy Johnson said: “The Shropshire Association of Cricket Officials is delighted to invite nominations from all Shropshire cricket clubs for this year’s SACO Awards.
“So any club, players, captains, committees of any club, why not show your appreciation for your club umpire or scorer and nominate them for their dedication and commitment to your clubs and cricket in Shropshire.”
They are seeking nominations in the following categories:
Club Umpire of the Year
Awarded for any club / recreational umpire for Div2 and below
Contribution to Officiating
This to be awarded to a scorer or umpire that has made a significant contribution to officiating in our county. This maybe for the length of service and or games umpired.
Scorer of the Year
Awarded to any club or recreational scorer or umpire. To include all league cricket and evening leagues, junior leagues, women’s teams etc.
Most Supportive Colleague
Awarded to any individual that has supported your club umpire or scorer throughout the season. Perhaps a mentor, helper or training support.
Most Improved Scorer
Awarded to any scorer that has progressed their scoring over the last season.
Andy added: “We are also pleased to announce that Joe Leach, former Worcestershire County Cricket Club Captain, will be our special guest speaker for this year’s awards evening.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate the dedication, commitment and achievements of the officials, both scorers and umpires, who play such an important role in supporting cricket across Shropshire.”
Last year, more than 70 people attended the awards, and Andy is urging anyone who wants to come along to let him know so he can get an idea of numbers for catering purposes.
