Shropshire Women’s XI face Devon test
Cricket Shropshire’s Women’s XI are looking forward to being back on home turf this Sunday when they host Devon at Worfield CC in their latest Metro Bank One Day Cup game.
They will be looking to put together a performance with both bat and ball against a side which has been in good form so far this season.
Cricket Shropshire Pathway and Coaching Manager Ed Ashlin said: “There have been plenty of positives from our 50 over matches so far.
“We knew it was going to be a challenge making the step up a league after last season’s promotion in this format.
“We have been in all the games competing well overall with a young team and there have been several positive individual contributions.”
The bat dominated the ball as Cricket Shropshire’s Women’s XI travelled to High Wycombe CC to take on Buckinghamshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup Division one campaign.
Batting first after winning the toss, skipper Lara Jones led the way in the Shropshire innings with an unbeaten 63 as her side finished their 50 overs on 268-9 in the Buckinghamshire heat.
Opener Shriya Sastry chipped in with 36, Alex Hale 21 while Harriet Shuker hit 23 off 20 balls and Isabella Lawrence-Posso 24 off 15.
The Bucks batters then also enjoyed the conditions as they reached their victory target for the loss of five wickets despite Kate Brazier claiming 2-48 from her ten overs.
The previous week had been a day for the bowlers when Shropshire hosted Staffordshire at Wem.
The visitors batted first and were dismissed for 192 with Izzy Crann claiming 4-59 and Jones 3-22 from her ten overs.
Opener Libby Thomas hit 45 for Shropshire in the reply and Jones chipped in with 22, but they were dismissed for 151 after being 80-1 at one point.
