Over 50s 2nd XI beat Staffs rivals
A four-wicket haul by Julian Gallimore ripped out the Staffordshire top order when Shropshire’s Over 50s 2nd XI travelled to Burslem.
His spell reduced the hosts to 57-4, and they never really recovered as they were dismissed for 126 with Sunil John (3-15) and Phil Snape (2-2) accounting for the lower order.
Mark Jones anchored the reply with an unbeaten 38 while David Frost made 26, Will Askin 20 and Kurt Finnigan was 20 not out as Shropshire won by six wickets.
They were just edged out by Warwickshire when they travelled to Alvechurch, losing by three wickets.
Batting first, Jones hit 57, Kurt Finnigan 56 and Graham Trow 36 as Shropshire finished their 45 overs on 221.
In the reply, Snape claimed 3-45 and Darren Shimmons 3-54, but Warwickshire reached their victory target in the 38thover.
Openers John Foster (60) and Martin Chambers (33) put on 80 for the first wicket when Shropshire Over 60s took on Leicestershire at Wroxeter CC.
A middle order collapse then put the hosts on the back foot before Neil Lorimer (38 not out) and skipper Lol Woodhall (22) helped boost the total to 179-7.
In the reply Keith Higgins claimed two wickets but the Foxes took the victory by seven wickets.
They then travelled to Fordhouses CC to take on Staffordshire and again batted first, finishing their 45 overs on 223-9.
Opener Jon Archer led the way with 86 and Chambers hit 25 before Lorimer smashed 54 off 38 balls to help boost the total.
The hosts seemed to be on course for victory at 188-3 when skipper Lol Woodhall gave them a scare with a four-wicket haul before they reached their victory target.
The Over 70s bowled Cricket Wales out for 156 when they travelled to Brecon with Geoff Bristow claiming 3-29, Leon Kosciucyk 2-19 and Dave Shaw 2-25.
But the Shropshire batters also found conditions tricky as they were restricted to 106-6 with only Andy Kemp (74 not out) able to master the conditions.
Foster (86) and Carlton Murray (70) starred with the bat when they hosted Staffrordshire at Wroxeter, while Chambers hit 21 as Shropshire made 188-4 from their 40 overs.
The Staffordshire batters also enjoyed the batting conditions as they knocked off the winning runs for the loss of just one wicket claimed by Andy Parkyn.
