Shrewsbury School claim county U15s crown

Shrewsbury School claimed the ECB/ESCA Shropshire Under 15s crown with victory over Thomas Adams School from Wem.

Shrewsbury batted first and scored an impressive 183-4 off their 20 overs.

Gurveen Singh Athwal (28) and captain George Jenkins (45 not out) gave the hosts a good start putting on 50 for the first wicket before Jenkins and Oscar Howarth (73 off 40 balls) added 94 for third.

For the visitors, Bobby Langton claimed 2-22 while skipper Ralph Davies took 1-20 off his four overs.

Thomas Adams also made a solid start to their reply with Langton (52) and Davies 44 putting on an 89-run partnership for the second wicket off 82 deliveries.

However, there was a flurry of wickets towards the end of the innings with Ruben Pembleton taking 5-6 off two overs.

Shrewsbury eventually won by 61 runs and play Cathedral School Hereford in the first regional round.

Howarth ( pictured left) won the player of the match shield narrowly getting the vote over Langton and Pembleton.

The side were also in action in the Midlands semi-final of the ESCA Under 15s One Day Cup where they hosted Oundle School.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first scoring a slightly below par 158-9 off their 30 overs. Oscar Haworth (39), Bryan Mudalige (26) and Bruno Dowland (17 not out) were the main contributors.

The Oundle reply got off to a disastrous start with the first three wickets going down for just 16 runs.

However, a 55-run partnership for the fourth wicket brought the visitors back into the game, but with the required run rate rising all the time, this put the Oundle batters under increasing pressure and wickets began to fall again.

The Oundle innings finished on 114-7 leaving Shrewsbury winners by 44 runs.

Hugo Bebb (3-23) and Sayak Mukherjee (2-12) were the pick of the Shrewsbury bowlers.

Shrewsbury now face Warwick School in the Midlands Final.
