Women’s XI claim T20 win
Cricket Shropshire’s Women’s XI continued their fine form in their ECB County T20 Group Two claiming victory over Leicestershire by 10 runs to move up to third in the table.
Batting first at Shifnal, they finished their 20 overs on 112-5, Robyn Mathews hitting 24 at the top of the innings, Caitlin Belcher 30 and skipper Lara Jones 20.
They then bowled Leicestershire out for 102 in the final over of their innings with Indira Singh claiming 4-22 to claim victory by 10 runs.
With Cambridgeshire opting out of the day, the two sides then played a friendly game which was won by the visitors 48 runs.
The Under 18 Boys travelled to Eastnor to take on Herefordshire in a two-day game and they started on the front foot, bowling the hosts out for 220 with Griff Davies, Wilf Peers and Henry Walker all claiming two wickets.
In their first innings, Shropshire were then bowled out for 255 to take a first innings lead with Max Ferrington top scoring with 60, Finn Jones hitting 57 off 38 balls at the top of the order, Yumeth Athauda chipping in with 43 and Peers with 25.
In their second innings, Herefordshire reached 269-7 when they declared, Alex Heath claiming 2-24 and Morgan Yorke 2-26.
Skipper Oliver Morgan hit 42 in the chase and wicket-keeper Morgan Ward 58, but Shropshire fell 49 runs short of their victory target.
Millie Parry was again in good form with the bat when the Under 15 Girls travelled to Moddershall CC to take on Staffordshire for a T20 game.
She hit 66 off 55 balls, with Sophia Parton adding 22 as Shropshire made 133-3 from their allocation of overs. But the bowlers could not then contain the Staffordshire batters who reached their victory target for the loss of just two wickets.
Earlier they had taken on Worcestershire and restricted them to 96-7 with Isabelle Wedgbury and Parton claiming two wickets each. In the reply, Parton hit an unbeaten 22 but the girls finished 26 runs short of their victory target.
They then faced Staffordshire again at Shifnal in the ECB U15s One-Day Cup, and made a promising start with Isabelle Crann hitting 20 and Parry 51 as they reached 91 before the loss of the third wicket.
But the rest of the batting failed to fire and they were dismissed for 121, Staffordshire claiming the victory for the loss of just one wicket.
They Under 16 Boys travelled to Oxfordshire but struggled with the bat, Dax Hardman top scoring with 22 as they were bowled out for 102. The hosts chased down their victory target for the loss of just one wicket.
