Women’s 30-over hardball Showcase Game

Cricket Shropshire is aiming to launch a new Women & Girls’ competition next Summer – and are planning a Showcase Game in August as a taster.

The hard ball 30-over competition for clubs will start in 2027 – but we are looking for players who are interested in taking part in the first ever showcase fixture this year.

The game will take place on Sunday, August 2 at Wem Cricket Club.

There has been an explosion of interest in the Women & Girls game in Shropshire in recent years.

And with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup taking place this Summer that is only likely to increase.

Cricket Shropshire’s Women & Girls Officer Naomi Payne said: “We have seen a growing number of women and girls get involved with lots of softball festivals and tournaments throughout the year – including indoor competitions during the Winter.

“We also have seen an increase in the number of clubs involved in our hard ball competitions.

“With more and more women and girls now looking to transition from softball to hard ball cricket, and as a result of feedback from clubs, we are now looking to launch a new 30-over format next year.

“We have decided to play a Showcase Game in August to raise the profile of the competition, and we would love to hear from players in the county who would like to get involved.”
