Steve & Dave are Volunteers of the Month
Cricket Shropshire’s latest Volunteer of the Month winners are Steve Humphreys from Oswestry CC and Dave Hassell from Shropshire’s Disability squad and St Georges CC.
They were presented with their certificates by Cricket Shropshire Chair Adrian Collins.
We are now looking for our Volunteers of the Month for the final two months of the season – August and September.
There are lots of worthy candidates out there – nominate via the form available at the end of the story.
The nomination for Steve from Oswestry CC was in recognition of his work with the club’s junior section
It said: “Over the past four seasons, Steve has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to the development and success of our young cricketers from his involvement in Junior Training and our highly successful All Stars programme.
“He has taken on numerous roles within the junior section, including coaching, organizing events, hosting registration nights, and providing mentorship to the young players.
“His ability to engage and inspire the children is truly remarkable.
“He single-handedly creates an environment that is both fun and educational, fostering a love for the game while teaching essential skills and sportsmanship.
One of Steve’s greatest strengths is his ability to connect with the young players. He has a unique talent for understanding each child’s individual needs and motivations, and tailors his approach to ensure that every player feels valued and encouraged.
“Steve has also been instrumental in organizing and executing various off-field events and activities. His organizational skills and attention to detail ensure that everything runs smoothly, from training sessions and matches to social events and fundraising initiatives.
He is also a team player, who at the start of this season has turned out on both weekend days because of a shortage of players and is the linchpin behind the formulation of our teams for the following week.
The nomination for Dave Hassall said: “He is the manager for the S9s Shropshire disability team and he goes above and beyond to make everything tick.
“He checks out who is available, who needs transport to and from matches, plays himself when he can, and helps with coaching.
“He is always ready to help anyone out with kit, also sharing his knowledge about what he has learnt about cricket. He is also now a Level One umpire, and when he finishes his playing career is planning to continue with this.”
