Scorer Holly heads to ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

Shropshire-based scorer Holly Eccleston is looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup this weekend.

She is set to be one of the official ICC scorers for the games at Edgbaston on Sunday for the double header which includes the clash between India and Pakistan.

It follows on earlier this week when she scored the warm-up games between Bangladesh and Ireland and New Zealand and South Africa at Loughborough.

She said: “We’ll be live scoring the games at Edgbaston which will be seen on the screens and scoreboards around the ground.

“It also goes on the ICC official scoring sheet as well.”

And despite the fast and furious action in a T20, Holly, who is from Whitchurch, says she does get the chance to enjoy the games.

“You do get to enjoy the game with the big atmosphere with everyone getting excited by what’s going on in the middle.

“It’s a different standard to a normal cricket game with the big crowds creating an incredible atmosphere.”

Holly is no stranger to scoring big games, having started her officiating journey a few years back at Whitchurch when she stopped playing with the girls’ teams.

She decided to start scoring instead and has travelled up and down the country scoring games – including at Lord’s, Old Trafford and Edgbaston.

She will be in action again later in the World Cup when she travels to Bristol to take up her duties in another double header on June 27 when Pakistan take on the Netherlands and West Indies face Ireland.

Later in the Summer she is also due to undertake scoring duties during the Hundred at both Edgbaston and Old Trafford – all while keeping up with her day job as organiser of the food side of a shooting business.

“I do like a spreadsheet,” she admits. “It all keeps me very busy, but it’s great to be involved and you get to meet some really interesting people along the way.”
