S9s beaten on trip to Derbyshire
Cricket Shropshire S9 squad suffered a disappointing defeat when they travelled to Darley Abbey CC to take on Derbyshire.
The game at the iconic yellow clubhouse followed on from the previous when when Shropshire’s D40 squad were due to visit only to have their game abandoned due to heavy overnight rain.
Unfortunately Shropshire could only muster 10 players with Kory Richards of St Georges DCC making his debut and before the game he received his cap from Lead Coach Jonathan Caldecott.
Skipper Damon Morris lost the toss and Shropshire were invited to bat on a greenish wicket – and the day went downhill from there.
Coach Graham Furber said: “There was next to no aggression shown in our batting and we slumped to just 38 all out in the 21st over.
“Although opening bowlers Oli Harrison and Luke Clark made early scoring difficult for the Derbyshire openers, and then both captured late wickets, it was too late to prevent our hosts passing our total in the 12th over to win by 8 wickets.
“A disappointing day and very difficult to find anything positive to say about the performance but we go again in a fortnight when we visit Castle Bromwich CC to play Warwickshire.”
