Ryan is SDCL Player of the Season
Ryan Barker of Staffordshire S9’s county squad has been named as the Shropshire Disabled Cricket League (SDCL) Player of the Season for 2023.
The presentation was made after the recent Oswestry DCC game v Staffs at Oswestry Leisure Centre.
The award is made annually in memory of SDCL Secretary Graham Furber’s son, Richard, who was a founder-member of the League.
Graham said: “The SDCL kindly let me make a unilateral decision as to who the award winner should be each year, in memory of our late son Richard who died in 2010 and was a founder member of the league.
“I may or may not pick one of the better players but always look for someone who plays the game in the right spirit, is respectful of their opponents and match officials and is a ‘sports person’ in the truest sense of the word.”
Pictured at the presentation are (from left): Scott Winton (Oswestry DCC), Steve Lightfoot (Staffs), Ryan Barker, Graham Furber (SDCL Secretary), Rachel Ford (Staffs) and Dave Hassall (St Georges DCC).
Both Scott and Dave are previous winners of the award – Scott was the inaugural winner in 2011 and Dave in 2016.
The SDCL has run every winter since 1990, save for the Covid year.
