Girls spring into action at Softball festival
Cricket Shropshire hosted our first-ever Girls Spring Softball Festival with seven teams taking part on the all-weather surface at Wrekin College.
It follows on from the successful Spring Women’s Softball Festival recently.
The festival involved seven teams from Newport, Allscott Heath, Codsall and Sentinel. There was also an additional team of Renegades formed from girls involved in the county pathway squads whose clubs did not enter a team.
The girls played six-a-side pairs matches against the other teams attending, providing them with an opportunity to play ahead of the summer season jam-packed with league fixtures and softball festivals.
Organiser Katie Rushton said: “It was great to see so many teams involved. The girls were really keen to play and organised themselves independently ahead of the games, deciding who was batting first and setting the field which was fantastic to see.
“The was a high level of sportsmanship on show throughout the day which saw the girls supporting not only their own teammates but also the players from other teams.
“Special mention to the Renegades who did not know each other at the start of the morning but formed a real team spirit as the morning progressed.
“Thank you to the team managers and coaches for their support in arranging for teams to attend and to Wrekin College for hosting.
