ECB update on DBS renewal process

The ECB has been notified of a change in the way the annual renewal of DBS certificates for volunteers in cricket will be handled which will affect all clubs in Shropshire.
The Disclosure and Barring Service now requires that all volunteers log into its update service account in order to renew their DBS on an annual basis.
In the past, volunteers only had to confirm to the ECB that they were continuing in their role – and their DBS certificate would renew automatically and they did not need to take any other action.
There are no changes in the system for paid DBS applicants.
The change means that any volunteer who does not log into their account when they receive the email from the DBS service for their annual renewal, they will find their DBS will lapse with the ECB notified of a failed check.
They will then have to apply for a new DBS certificate if they are continuing in their role.
The ECB had not been notified in advance of these changes made by the Disclosure and Barring Service, and is now working to minimise the impact of this change.
This has resulted in the following changes:
- All on-screen text and email communications will be updated by 20th January, to clearly inform applicants of the necessary steps to renew their DBS with the ECB and to renew their Subscription to the Update Service.
- Emails will be issued to all individuals who are due for renewal within the next 30 days, serving as an additional reminder of the required actions, including the new process.
- Communications will be shared with the network and wider game.
- The ECB is in the process of re-contacting all individuals who have lapsed since January 1st to assist them in submitting a new application where applicable, thereby reducing the number of applications that need to be initiated locally.
