Big win for U13 Girls

Cricket Shropshire’s Under 13 girls eased to a big victory when the travelled to Pentland Gardens to take on their Herefordshire counterparts.

After winning the toss and batting first, they racked up 193-8 from their 35 overs with opener Elizabeth Daniels-Sanders top scoring with 58 before she was run out.

The Herefordshire reply never got going as an early run out and Sophia Parton taking 2-8 saw them reduced to 10-4.

Matilda Grantham then claimed three wickets for just one run from her two overs and Matilda McBain 2-7 as the hosts were dismissed for 24 to give Shropshire victory.

Lauren Kenvyn (pictured below) hit a brilliant century when Shropshire Girls Under 18s hosted Cheshire at Knockin & Kinnerley CC.

Batting first, Shropshire finished their 50 overs on 252-9 with Kenvyn hitting exactly 100 before she was dismissed. Esther Hurford added 46 and Millie Parry 41 to help boost the Shropshire total.

But the Cheshire batters also found the surface to their liking as they reached their victory target for the loss of six wickets with more than five overs to spare.

The girls got their revenge in the first of two T20s played a couple of days later at Warrington Sports Club.

They restricted Cheshire to 95-8 from their 20 overs in an innings which featured three run outs, and then reached their victory target with seven balls to spare, Kenvyn again leading the way with an unbeaten 35.

Batting again proved tricky in the second game, with Shropshire restricted to 87-7, Kenvyn top scoring with 27, before Cheshire claimed victory by six wickets despite her picking up 2-21 from her four overs.

Earlier in the week, the girls were beaten by 40 runs when they took on Warwickshire at Worfield.

Batting first, the visitors were bowled out for 232 with Parry and Hurford claiming three wickets apiece and Freya Jones and Rebecca Mullard-Wilson two.

In reply, skipper Kate Brazier hit 46, Mullard-Wilson 39 and Amber Daniels-Sanders 20 as they attempted to keep up with the strike rate, but they were dismissed for 192 in the 37th over.

Shropshire’s Under 14 Boys claimed two T20 victories over Warwickshire B when they travelled to Kenilworth Wardens.

Batting first in the opening game, they finished on 178-6 with Luca Evans leading the way with 73 off just 45 balls, Ollie Dyson hitting 48 and Will Parkinson-Witte 20.

In the reply, they restricted the Bears to 146-6 to claim victory by 32 runs, Harmilan Grover claiming 3-23.

In the second game, Warwickshire batted first and made 166-6 with the wickets shared around the Shropshire bowlers.

Again the Shropshire batters enjoyed themselves in the reply with openers Dyson hitting 32 and Parkinson-Witte 38. 

Then Grover (38 off 24) and Lamkin Illeperuma (46 off 24) shared an unbeaten third wicket partnership to see Shropshire to victory by eight wickets in the 17th over.

Shropshire’s Under 13 Boys were also in action at Kenilworth Wardens CC taking on their Warwickshire counterparts.

The hosts batted first and made 230-4 from their 45 overs, Ralph Davies the pick of the Shropshire bowlers claiming 3-32 from his nine overs.

In reply, wicket-keeper Harry Harrison top-scored with 61 off 67, Harry Dillon made 22 and Davies 28, but Shropshire finished 44 runs short in their chase on 185-9.

Shropshire’s Under 11 Boys travelled to Uttoxeter to take on their Staffordshire rivals and found themselves in the field on a good wicket with a fast outfield.

Despite a spectacular slip catch by Elliott Weaver, a couple of missed chances enabled the hosts to build a significant total of 232-5 from their 40 overs, Joseph Stanton and Billy Anders claiming two wickets apiece.

Shropshire lost both openers early but James Scattergood hit 33 and lower order runs from Edward Simkin (37) Gabe Hanratty (20) and Jamie Chambers (22) saw Shropshire to 189 before they were bowled out.

Coach Tyler Ibbotson said: “It was a great game with a lot to take from it in preparation for the Summer Festival at Shrewsbury School, Thanks to all the coaches, parents and players involved.”

The Under 11 Girls travelled to Newcastle and Hartshill CC to take on Staffordshire for two T20 games and returned with a share of the spoils.

In the first game Staffordshire Leopards batted first and finished their 20 overs on 73-5. In the reply, Gouri Cherukuri led with way with an unbeaten 20 as the girls claimed victory by six wickets in the 18th over.

In the second game of the day the girls batted first and were bowled out for 65 despite Cherukuri’s unbeaten 34. In the reply Gianna Filippi and Ella Dhawan both claimed two wickets, but the Leopards claimed victory by four wickets with eight balls to spare.

The Under 16 Boys headed to Bromsgrove School to take on Worcestershire Sub Academy in a two-day game that was affected by the weather.

Worcestershire batted first and were dismissed for 189 with Max Lloyd claiming 4-28 and Krish Singh and Ryan Cumming two wickets apiece. Shropshire declared their first innings on 109-9, Vrishab Eli hitting 26 and Lloyd 20.

Will Walker then claimed four second innings wickets as the hosts made 161-5 before they declared to set a target for Shropshire to chase.

Unfortunately, despite 36 from Arjun Cherukuri and 29 from Auyush Deshpande, they were bowled out for 131.
