Batters in form for County Women’s XI

It was success at the double for Shropshire’s Women’s XI when they hosted Lincolnshire for two T20 games at Allscott Heath CC.

In the first game of the day as part of the Women County T20 Group 2, Shropshire batted first and set a formidable target of 170-3 from their 20 overs – Amy Griffiths leading the way with an unbeaten 77 from 67 balls.

She was backed up by contributions from Lauren Kenvyn (27) and Libby Snowdon (28).

Lincolnshire were bowled out for 81 in reply with Madison Windeatt taking 3-11 and Caitlin Belcher 2-14.

In the second game, a friendly, Shropshire again batted first with Caitlin Belcher hitting an unbeaten 78 from 58 balls and Aamna Khan chipping in with 38 as this time Shropshire made 174-3.

Lincolnshire were then bowled out for 82 with Griffiths claiming 3-8 and Isabel Curry 3-12.

The Under 18 Girls were involved in a thrilling finish when they took on Derbyshire at Spondon CC in a T20 game.

The hosts batted first and finished their innings on 114-3, skipper Kate Brazier taking 2-21.

In the reply, Brazier’s 25 and Millie Parry’s 36 off 32 balls helped keep Shropshire up with the rate, but both were run out as wickets fell. Amber Daniels-Sanders and Megan Wigley kept their heads at the end to seal victory with a ball to spare.

The second game did not go as well for Shropshire with Derbyshire making 180-1 before Shropshire were restricted to 97-4 in reply with Brazier hitting 33.

The Under 13 Girls fell just short of their victory target when they took on Worcestershire at Willey CC.

Batting first, the visitors finished their 30 overs on 107-9 with Sophia Parton claiming 4-11 and Annabelle Burton 2-12. In the reply, Parton hit 33 but no other batter managed double figures as Shropshire were bowled out for 93.

Skipper Millie Parry led the way for the Under 15 girls when they took on Staffordshire at Wrekin College in the first of two T20 games on the day.

She hit 54 off 55 balls as she led her side to 115-4 off their 20 overs. They then bowled Staffs out for 70 with Parton stepping up a level and again leading the bowling attack with 4-13. Isabelle Crann and Megan Wigley took two wickets apiece.

The second game of the day was against Warwickshire, and this time the girls found the going tougher.

Batting first, they were restricted to 80-7 from their 20 overs, Parry again leading the way with 20. Warwickshire secured their victory by eight wickets in the 13th over.

The Under 16 Boys travelled to Newtown Lindford CC take on Leicestershire and saw the hosts build an impressive total of 288-5 off their 50 overs, Matt Morris claiming three wickets.

They gave the chase a good go with Arjun Cherukuri hitting 60, Finn Jones 30 and Vrishab Eli an unbeaten 50, but they were bowled out for 228.

They struggled with the bat when they hosted Nottinghamshire at Wellington CC, being restricted to 97 after winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Arthur Smallman making 31.

Ryan Cumming claimed 2-20 off his nine overs in the reply, but Notts claimed victory by seven wickets.

The Under 14 Boys hosted Buckinghamshire at Bridgnorth CC and saw the visitors rack up 254 from their 45 overs with Ollie Dyson and Hugo Lowther claiming two wickets apiece.

Lowther then hit 45 in the reply and Matt Morris chipped in with 34, but Shropshire were bowled out for 146.

They then travelled to Ruby School to take on Warwickshire and Morris led the way with the bat with 35 but saw his side dismissed for 122. The Bears reached their victory target for the loss of just one wicket

The Under 11 Girls travelled to Redditch to take on Worcestershire and were restricted to 89-7 from their 30 overs, Gouri Cherukuri top scoring with 27.

They battled back well in the field with Cherukuri claiming 2-6 from three overs, but the hosts managed to reach their victory target six wickets down.
