Church Eaton claim Furrows League title
Church Easton claimed the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-Week League Division One title in a dramatic finale.
They pipped defending champions to the crown by just one point despite losing their final game of the season.
They now go on to represent the Furrows League in the Shropshire Champions Challenge Cup against the winners of the Shrewsbury and District Evening League Grasshoppers.
The Champions Challenge Cup was introduced last year as a showcase game between the winners of the two evening leagues in Shropshire – last year’s inaugural game saw Grasshoppers beat St Georges to claim the title.
The game takes place tonight at Allscott Heath CC with a 6.30pm start.
Church Eaton were beaten in their last game against Priorslee but picked up a crucial four bonus points – batting first they made 123-6 with Zeekhird Hainf top scoring with 46 and Arran Peasley hitting 30. Prasahth Thazha took 3-24.
Priorslee knocked off the runs for the loss of three wickets with Abin Antony 35 not out.
St Georges won their last two games against Allscott Heath and Priorslee, but they could not quite overhaul Church Eaton’s points tally.
Both St Georges and Church Eaton won seven of their ten games.
Codsall had claimed the Division Two title the previous week in emphatic style with victory over Newport by 82 runs.
Batting first at Audley Avenue, they made 205-5 from their 20 overs with Monti Kunner top scoring with an unbeaten half century while Pankaj Shah took 3-30 for the hosts.
Codsall then restricted Newport to 123-8 with Naveed Khan taking 4-24.
That gave them the title with eight wins from ten, with Wheaton Aston finishing as runners up, just pipping Newport and Broseley by one point.
