Adam Marshalls D40 side to victory
Skipper Adam Marshall led the way with an all-round performance as Shropshire’s D40 squad wrapped up its ECB league programme with a victory.
The win against the Cheshire Hardball Development Squad at Norton-in-Hales CC came despite Shropshire having to take the field with nine players due to late withdrawals.
Cheshire won the toss and chose to bat first, at Marshall led the way with the ball despite nursing a troublesome knee injury.
He claimed 4-32 with Oli Harrison chipping in with 2-25 and wicket-keeper Rab Cooper swapping the gloves for a bowl claiming 2-16 as the visitors were dismissed for 154.
The game was effectively won by an opening partnership of 112 in 10.4 overs between Marshall and Damon Morris (22 not out).
Marshall continued his excellent form with the bat this season with an unbeaten 78 before he retired, including 14 boundaries and two huge straight maximums.
Two quick wickets followed but Cooper then hit a quick unbeaten 22 with five boundaries to seal the victory after 21.4 overs.

“To win today was particularly enjoyable for our five players who have been ever-present through the season which a truly awful one with availability issues.”
A minute’s silence was observed by both teams before the start of the game in memory of cricket great Sir Garfield ‘Garry’ Sobers.
