Seniors looking for new recruits

Shropshire’s Senior sides are looking for more ‘youngsters’ to come and join in with the fun.

The Seniors runs two sides at Over 50s level in national competitions, one at Over 60s and for the first time this year have launched an Over 70s side.

Games are played during the week with the Over 60s games usually on a Tuesday, Over 50s on a Wednesday while the Over 70s games will normally take place on Thursdays.

The squads have been stepping up their preparations for the new season with indoor nets, with outdoor nets planned, weather permitting.

Shropshire Seniors Chair John Foster said: “We are all looking forward to dusting off the kit and getting back out in the middle again – and we’re always keen to hear from any ‘youngsters’ who may want to get involved.

“It’s a chance to play some competitive but friendly cricket with people of a similar age and outlook. It’s also a great way of staying fit and active.”

Playing Seniors cricket also gives the opportunity for players to get involved in national squads.

Ellesmere’s Peter Hayes was a member of the England Over 70s side which recently retained the Ashes Down Under and then won the Over 70s World Cup in New Zealand.

John himself captained England Over 60s on two successful Ashes tours, while Albrighton’s Adam Shimmons has played for the England Over 50s.
