Bobby dazzles but Shrewsbury School claim U14s title

Hosts Shrewsbury School claimed the Shropshire Schools U14s title despite a battling performance by Thomas Adams School Wem in the final.

The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first in a match reduced to 20-overs-side due to the hot weather.

An excellent second wicket partnership between Oscar Howarth (59 off 47 balls) and skipper George Jenkins (43 off 37) set the platform for a big score.

But tight bowling and good fielding by the visitors kept the Shrewsbury middle order in check and they finished their innings on 158-5.

Bobby Langton was the pick of the Thomas Adams attack, claiming 2-30 off his four overs.

He then starred with the bat in the reply, earning himself the Player of the Match award in the process.

After losing an early wicket, he hit 80 off 78 balls and was joined by Rufus Davies (32) to help get Thomas Adams in touching distance of their target with a 120-run partnership.

They eventually finished on 126-2 to give Shrewsbury School victory by 32 runs in a competitive and entertaining game which was a credit to both sides.

Shrewsbury School now go on to represent Shropshire in the regional and national rounds of the competition next Summer.

The trophy and medals were presented by Thomas Adams Head Mark Cooper.
