Security warning after Albrighton break-in

Cricket clubs in Shropshire have been warned to be on their guard after thieves struck at Albrighton Cricket Club for the second time in two years.

Both club mowers were stolen along with a quad bike belonging to neighbouring Albrighton Tennis Club in the raid last night.

Club spokesman Darren Shimmons said: “They’ve broken into the ground and driven across the field to get to the equipment shed to break in, causing a lot of damage.

“We’re checking with neighbours to see if anyone has any CCTV footage. It’s a real pain, I’ve had to take the day off to sort things out and we’ve had to borrow a mower as obviously we need one at this time of year with the season in full swing.”

He urged other clubs to be aware of the issue – especially those in more rural locations.

Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “It’s really upsetting to hear about this happening to a cricket club which is run due to the dedication and hard work of volunteers for the benefit of the local community.

“A heads up to all clubs to check that they take all the security measures they can as these thieves could be doing the rounds again.”
