Newport Girls High claim U13s indoor title
Congratulations to Newport Girls High who claimed the Shropshire Under 13 Girls Indoor crown after an action-packed final against Packwood.
They now go on to represent Shropshire in the regional finals on Friday, May 2, in Birmingham.
The final was full of drama – Packwood were asked to bat and that decision by Newport paid off early as they reduced their opponents to 3-3 after the first over.
Packwood steadied the ship with mature partnerships from their middle order, this allowed them to reach 58 off their eight overs.
Newport set off in positive fashion but a middle order mini collapse put the game in jeopardy before they finally prevailed in the penultimate over.
The finals took place at Wrekin College where Newport and Packwood were joined by Charlton, Shrewsbury High, Ludlow School and Ellesmere College.
Teams were split into two groups which were topped by Packwood and Newport, they were joined in the semi-finals by Shrewsbury High and Ellesmere.
Newport then defeated Shrewsbury High, whilst Packwood overcame a stern test against Ellesmere, eventually coming out on top with a one wicket win.
