Young Ambassador programme planned in July

Cricket Shropshire will be running another of its popular Young Ambassador Programmes during the Summer holidays.

There are 12 spaces available on the sessions for youngsters aged 13-17 which will run at Wrekin College on July 23 and 34.

If follows on from the huge demand for the courses we staged earlier this year.

The first Young Ambassadors programme took place in 2021 with the aim of helping youngsters develop their leadership skills and then put them into practice by volunteering at their clubs.

It is backed by former Worcestershire and Shropshire ace Jack Shantry who is now part of the First Class Umpiring panel and officiated at his first international game last Summer.

Jack helped launch the programme back in 2021 when he donated some of the proceeds from his benefit year to Cricket Shropshire.

We are delighted to have Jack on board as our Patron.

Day one of this summer’s course on July 23 will feature sessions on officiating, safeguarding, EDI and Grounds Maintenance.

The following day the focus will be on coaching and Mini Medics.

They will then be asked to go back to their clubs and complete 20 hours of voluntary work.

Organiser Shannon Aston said: “We’re looking forward to staging another Young Ambassadors course this summer.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback about recent courses, and it’s great to see the youngsters getting involved with volunteering at their clubs once they done the initial sessions.

“We have only got limited spaces available on this course, so if you have a candidate who is keen to get involved, please let us know by filling in the form linked below.
