Women’s XI launch 2025 campaign

Shropshire’s new-look Women’s XI launch their 2025 campaign this Easter weekend with a game again Cumbira at Whitchurch.
The Women’s County game has seen a restructure linked in with the eight regional professional teams being handed back to County hosts.
Eight Counties have been placed in Tier 1 (professional) to be joined by Yorkshire and Glamorgan in the next couple of years to make ten Counties.
The other ‘First Class Counties’ make up Tier 2 with ‘National Counties’ including Shropshire within Tier 3.
Shropshire have been allocated to Division two North (Tier 3) and will compete over the course of the summer in the Metro Bank 50 over competition and the Vitality T20 competition.
The ECB have also introduced a new ‘FA Cup style’ Knockout Cup (T20) which will see teams from all Tiers entered.
Shropshire’s first round game is v Norfolk on Monday 5th May at Allscott Heath CC.

This weekend’s 50 over game against Cumbria at Whitchurch CC is on Easter Sunday with a 10.30am start.
In recent seasons, Shropshire have benefitted from a link with Warwickshire with access to players and coaches to support our Women’s team.
Our link with Warwickshire and other neighbouring counties will remain for 2025 with the utilisation of loan players to aid their development and help our team where appropriate.
Pathway Manager Ed Ashlin said: “We are excited that our squad contains lots of young talent and feel we have a good mix with several key, experienced players available throughout the season.
“We are grateful that we are continuing our relationship with Warwickshire to provide further opportunities to young cricketers.”
Squad: Kate Brazier, Amy Connelly, Amber Daniels Sanders (wk), Molly Ferneyhough, Amy Griffiths, Alex Hale, Freya Jones, Lara Jones (c), Aamna Khan, Robyn Mathews, Erin Newey, Millie Parry
Shropshire will be led by lead coach Sam Whitney who will be joined by Naomi Payne and Lyn Perrin to complete the coaching/managerial team.
Ed said: “We are really pleased to have Sam working with our Women’s and U18 Girls squads, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and has a real passion for the development and success of Shropshire Cricket.
“Naomi brings significant coaching expertise and lots of Women’s County playing experience whilst we are delighted to have retained Lyn as Manager who has done such a great job over the last few seasons helping aid the transition of Warwickshire players into our team.
“The players have all worked really hard over the Winter Programme and are now looking forward to getting started on Sunday. We look forward to welcoming Cumbria to Whitchurch and hope that weather holds.”
