Chance to Shine U13 Girls County Finals

Frankwell Cricket Club welcomed some of Shropshire’s most talented young cricketers yesterday as nine schools competed in the Chance to Shine U13 Girls County Finals.

Schools from Shropshire gathered for a fantastic day of cricket, with teams representing The Grove School, Charlton School, Ercall Wood Academy, Newport Girls’ High School, Meole Brace School, HLC, Idsall School, Bridgnorth Endowed School, and Thomas Adams School.

The standard of cricket on display throughout the day was amazing, with players demonstrating excellent skill, teamwork and sportsmanship in a series of closely contested matches.

After an exciting competition, Newport Girls’ High School were crowned county champions, with Bridgnorth Endowed School finishing as runners-up.

The event carried extra significance as excitement continues to build ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. To celebrate the tournament and the growing opportunities for girls in cricket, each school had the opportunity to take photographs in a special Women’s World Cup-themed frame. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the experience, proudly representing both their schools and the future of the game.

Girls from HLC described the event as:

“A great experience, way better than school.”

“Loved it.”

“Had a great time.”

“Nice to play cricket together.”

Teachers also highlighted the positive impact of the competition. James Ashley from The Grove School said:

“This means everything to these girls. It gives them a chance to express themselves and be part of something they may not always get the opportunity to experience. They have thoroughly enjoyed the day and it has been brilliantly organised. Everything has run smoothly, and it has been a fantastic experience for everyone involved.”

As county champions, Newport Girls’ High School will now go on to represent Shropshire in the Chance to Shine Regional Finals at Edgbaston Stadium on Monday 6 July.

Cricket Shropshire would like to thank all of the schools, teachers, volunteers, officials and supporters who helped make the day such a memorable celebration of girls’ cricket.

Congratulations to Newport Girls’ High School on becoming county champions, and good luck as they prepare to represent Shropshire at Edgbaston next month.
