Sun, fun and smiles at Madeley schools competition

Madeley Cricket Club was buzzing with energy as local primary schools came together for a morning of fun, teamwork, and cricket at a Schools Festival hosted by Cricket Shropshire.
Four teams from three schools – Shortwood Primary, William Reynolds, and Sir Alexander Fleming A & B, took to the field in a friendly pairs cricket across the Madeley ground.
Supporting the event were coaches Ryan and Ben from Cricket Shropshire, ensuring that every child from years 5 & 6 had a chance to learn, play, and develop confidence in the game.
Helping the day run smoothly were brilliant young leaders from Bridgnorth Endowed School (Years 8 & 9), who took on the roles of umpires and scorers with maturity and great teamwork.
Sir Alexander Fleming finished at the top of the standings, but all the teams played with great spirit and determination, making it a rewarding experience for everyone involved.
Mr. Buckley from Short Wood Primary School said: “Our Year Six students loved their morning at Madeley Cricket Club.
“Although they don’t often play in matches, many have taken part in after-school sessions, and it was great to see their skills come to life today. The sunshine really added to the fun!”
Vanessa Russell, Development Administrator for Cricket Shropshire, added: “We love to host school festivals at local clubs and would really encourage schools to get in touch – we’re always happy to help arrange a festival locally.
“It’s wonderful to see the children smiling, outdoors, and enjoying themselves. It’s even better when a school can walk to the venue, as we know transport can often be a barrier. These local opportunities make cricket truly accessible for everyone.”
