Regional success for CTS STREET sides

Cricket Shropshire’s Chance to Shine Street sides returned from the regional finals with medals after a successful day in Wolverhampton.

It is the first time Shropshire has entered sides into the regional competition – and both the Under 12s and Under 15s won all their group matches to qualify for their respective finals.

The Under 12s won their final and have now qualified for the national finals which will be held in August, while the Under 15s were narrowly beaten to finish as runners up.

Cricket Shropshire Community Officer Sacha Lee said: “Both teams showed so much skill and quick thinking, determination and teamwork during the day.

“We are incredibly proud to represent Shropshire in this competition for the first time and shine a light on the great work being done in our C2S STREET clubs across the county.

“Thank you to Staffordshire Cricket for hosting the event.”

Cricket Shropshire now runs seven different C2S STREET sessions across Shropshire at venues ranging from Craven Arms to Market Drayton.

C2S STREET brings cricket to young people, aged 8-15 years old, who traditionally face barriers to getting active.

It uses the sport to increase aspiration, promote social cohesion and create opportunities in diverse communities and areas of deprivation.
