Mixed fortunes for U11 Girls

Cricket Shropshire’s U11 Girls shared the spoils when they took on Warwickshire’s U11 Bears Girls in two T20 games at the Four Oaks Saints ground.
It was good to see them get the game on in another week in which the weather had a big effect on County Age Group fixtures.
In the first game on the day, Shropshire were put in to bat and made 125-7 from their 20 overs with Mills Jones top scoring with 49 before she was run out.
In reply, the Bears were bowled out for 84 to give Shropshire victory by 41 runs with Gianna Filippi claiming 2-10, Zara Tomkins 2-15 and Millie Thompson 2-7.
But in the second game the Bears fired back, batting first and finishing on 88-6 with Nilasha Patel claiming 3-7 and Ella Dhawan 2-10.
Unfortunately the Shropshire reply never got started as they were dismissed for 46 with no batter able to reach double figures.
Cricket Shropshire’s Under 18 Boys also struggled with the bat when they travelled to Barnt Green CC to take on Worcestershire.
Max Ferrington (23), Morgan Yorke (20) and Hamza Bhatti (28 not out) all got starts, but Shropshire were dismissed for 178. The hosts chased down their target for the loss of three wickets.
The Under 18 Girls also failed with the bat when they took on the North East Warriors at Wem, being bowled out for 96. The visitors reached their victory target for the loss of two wickets, two of those claimed by Kate Brazier.
The Under 16 Boys had a good start when they faced Northamptonshire at Shrewsbury CC, with a 93-run stand from second wicket pair of Finn Jones (57) and Harry Parton (42).
But once they were dismissed, the rest of the Shropshire batting fell away and they were dismissed for 148.
The bowlers then put up a good fight in the reply as Northants edged to victory by three wickets, Max Lloyd and Matt Morris claiming two wickets apiece.
Batting troubles were a familiar story when the Under 15s took on Staffordshire at Eccleshall in a two-day game.
In their first innings Shropshire were indebted to Hugo Lowther (41) and Jake Van Custem (28) putting on a 75-run seventh wicket partnership as they were bowled out for 126.
Staffs declared their reply on 250-7, Rufus Drake claiming three wickets and Finn Jones two.
Shropshire were then bowled out again for 116 to lose by an innings and eight runs, Jones making 23 and Van Custem 24.
