KS3 Cricket Festival a smash hit

Teams from six schools across Shropshire battled it out for honours in the KS3 Cricket Festival organised Energize Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and supported by Cricket Shropshire.

Haberdashers’ Adams from Newport eventually claimed the trophy in the round-robin tournament held under blue skies at Frankwell in Shrewsbury.

Teams from Lakelands Academy in Ellesmere, Charlton in Wellington, Priory in Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Bridgnorth Endowed also took part in the tournament.

Cricket Shropshire Development Administrator Vanessa Russell said: “With every team facing off against each other, the festival ensured plenty of cricket for all participants – encouraging skill development, sportsmanship and enjoyment throughout the day.”

Bridgnorth Endowed teacher Rory Noble said: “We brought 11 players, eight of them also play cricket outside of schools, some for clubs, some for school, and some are currently looking to join a local club.

“This event was a brilliant opportunity to build connections, promote community cricket in Shropshire, and get everyone active. The sunny weather made it even more enjoyable.”

The festival was part of a wider effort to spark interest in cricket among young people across the region.

The success and enthusiasm seen on the first day highlighted the strong appetite for cricket in local schools and the potential to further grow grassroots involvement.

Vanessa added: “It’s fantastic to see schools coming together for a day of fun, active cricket. These events are key to building pathways into the sport and showing that cricket is a game for everyone.”
