James Corfield Memorial Match

Cricket Shropshire staff were honoured to attend the inaugural Mid Wales XI v MCC match held at Montgomery CC in memory of James Corfield.
James, a talented cricketer with Monty, tragically passed away aged 19, and the match is now due to become an annual fixture in his memory and in aid of the DPJ Foundation – a Welsh mental health charity supporting individuals in agriculture.
Cricket Shropshire’s Development Administrator Vanessa Russell and Schools and Community Programme Officer Sacha Lee were among the hundreds in attendance to honour James’s legacy and help raise funds for the cause.
In addition to the game, the guests were treated to a day full of activities including speeches, lunch, an auction and raffle before the Mid Wales collected the trophy.
Vanessa said: “It was a real privilege to be part of such a meaningful day. The atmosphere was full of warmth and remembrance, and it was so clear how much James meant to everyone.
“The event struck the perfect balance of celebration and reflection, and Montgomery Cricket Club did an incredible job bringing the community together.”
Sacha said: “Being there really brought home how powerful sport can be in uniting people.
“James’s memory lives on not only through this trophy, but in the positive action being taken to support mental health. The DPJ Foundation is doing vital work, and it was an honour to support the day.”
