Haberdashers Adams U13s claim thrilling Bunbury Cup victory

Haberdashers Adams Newport claimed the Shropshire David English U13 Schools Bunbury Cup Final thanks to a brilliant recovery from their middle order batters.

They were chasing Packwood Haugh’s 124-8 from their 20 overs in the final at Pontesbury and were in early trouble when they lost their first four wickets for 15 runs.

With the required run rate edging ever higher, their chances looked remote.

But they staged a fine recovery with Hamish Gowan (14), Seth Healey (25no) and player of the match Rafay Rehman (24) turning the match round to reach their target for the loss of six wickets with just two balls remaining of a thrilling encounter.

Harry Giffard (three wickets) and George Lowther (two wickets) were the pick of the Packwood attack.

In the Packwood innings, several batters made a start, with Lowther, Kyle Rudge, Gabriel Hanratty and Giffard all getting into double figures without going on to make a significant contribution in their total of 124.

The pick of the Adams bowlers were Anirvin Garimella (2-13) and Hrisay Patel (2-24).

Haberdashers Adams will now go on to represent Shropshire in the regional and national rounds of the competition next year.
