Open trials for Shropshire’s Women’s XI

Cricket Shropshire is staging Open Trials early next month for our successful Women’s XI.

The trials will take place at Shrewsbury School on Sunday November 1 and 8 from 6-8pm on each day.

Shropshire’s Women’s XI compete in Tier 3 in national competitions and enjoyed another successful season in 2026.

Cricket Shropshire’s Pathway and Coaching Manager Ed Ashlin said: “We are inviting players to attend who are ambitious to continue to develop their cricket and can demonstrate that they have or have the potential to dominate within club or County Age Cricket.”

In their T20 competition this season, the Women’s XI reached Finals Day for the second successive season winning an impressive nine out of ten group games in the process before losing out to a strong Dorset side at Arundel Castle.

Having gained promotion to Division 1 in the 50 over format, it was always going to be a challenging campaign.

Overall, the squad competed well in its first season at that level and maintained their Division 1 status for 2027 by winning two crucial matches Cambridgeshire and Wiltshire.

Libby Thomas had an outstanding summer with the bat, scoring over 750 runs at an average of 55 with three have centuries and one century- a superb 180 against Wiltshire.

Captain Lara Jones scored 275 runs with two half centuries and had an outstanding summer with the ball taking 35 wickets at an average of 13.

Young leg spinner Isabelle Crann continued her progression by taking 26 wickets at an average of 20.
