Strong individual and team performances from Girls’ Age Group sides
There have been plenty of positive performances and results from Shropshire’s Girls Age Group sides this Summer – including from Under 18s skipper Millie Parry who has hit three centuries.
The Under 14 girls upset the form books in stunning style when they hosted previously unbeaten Warwickshire at Condover CC in their 50-over competition.
First, they bowled out the visitors for 190 with Constance Worle claiming 4-44 and Sophia Kundu 3-39.
They then raced to victory in the 28th over with Ava Mainwaring hitting a half century and Mills Jones 74 off just 43 balls.
Skipper Millie Parry (pictured left) hit a stunning unbeaten 167 off just 128 balls when Shropshire Under 18 Girls hosted Worcestershire at Shrewsbury CC.
Isabelle Crann hit an unbeaten 41, Ellie Barlow 39 and Ashvini Samanta 22 as Shropshire posted a mammoth 336-4 from their 50 overs.
In the reply, the visitors were restricted to 264-4 with the wickets shared around as Shropshire claimed victory by 72 runs.
It was Parry’s third century of the campaign after she also hit 100 when the girls travelled to Harborne CC to take on Warwickshire.
The hosts had batted first and made 389-6 from their 50 overs with Isabelle Crann claiming three wickets.
Mills Jones also hit a century in the reply in a stand of 176 for the third wicket with her skipper, Crann hit 37 and Parton was unbeaten on 31 as Shropshire finished 53 runs short of their victory target on 336-8.
Parry also made an unbeaten 136 in her side’s defeat against Warwickshire earlier in the season at Allscott Heath CC.
The Under 18 Girls also enjoyed two T20 wins over Cumbria at Lilleshall.
In the first game of the day, Shropshire batted first and made 154-5 with Amy Connelly hitting 52, Isabelle Crann 22 and Ashvini Samanta 20.
In the reply, they restricted Cumbria to 87-7 with the wickets spread around as skipper Parry used eight bowlers – Crann taking 2-9 from her four overs.
Shropshire batted first again in the second game with Parry leading from the front hitting 74 from 50 balls as Shropshire made 188-8.
Sophia Parton then ripped out the top order claiming 4-9 from four overs while Anna Hurford chipped in with 2-5 and Neve Crann 2-6 as the visitors made 61-9.
Earlier in the week, the Under 18s hosted Scotland at Whitchurch for two T20s.
In the first game, Scotland batted first and made an impressive 210-2, Connelly claiming both wickets to fall.
In the reply, Parry hit 81 off 39 balls, and Connelly was unbeaten on 72 when the rain arrived with Shropshire on 202-4 from 18 overs and declared winners under Duckworth/Lewis.
The second game of the day was reduced to 16 overs-a-side as a result of the weather, with Scotland batting first and finishing on 112-7, Megan Wigley claiming 2-9 and Alice Deacon 3-14.
Shropshire were then restricted to 105-7 with Isabelle Crann top scoring with 33 to give the visitors victory by seven runs.
A brilliant last wicket partnership of 33 from Isabelle Crann and Alice Deacon (pictured left) saw the Under 16 Girls (pictured top) to a thrilling victory when they travelled to Astwood Bank CC to take on Worcestershire in their 50-over competition.
Batting first, the hosts made 295-9 with Anna Hurford claiming 3-34, Parry 3-43 and Parton 2-24.
In the reply, Anvai Bhawar hit 41, Chloe Harley 32, Oarton 26 and Parry 56, but when Deacon Joined skipper Crann in the middle Shropshire were on 265-9 – 31 runs short of victory.
But with Crann farming the strike, the pair managed to reach their victory target with the skipper hitting a boundary to win the game in the 47th over.
There were mixed fortunes for the Under 16 Girls when they hosted Nottinghamshire at Newport CC in their T20 competition.
In the first game they batted first and made 169-2 with Parry hitting 63, Jones 24, Crann 31 not out and Parton 28 not out.
They then restricted Notts to 163-6 with Crann claiming two wickets to seal the victory by six runs.
In the second game, Shropshire again batted first but were this time restricted to 133-7 with Parton top scoring with 46 and Crann making 27.
The visitors reached their victory target for the loss of three wickets.
They were beaten by Warwickshire by six wickets when they hosted them at Whittington CC.
Batting first, Shropshire were bowled out for 171 with Elizabeth Daniels-Sanders top scoring with 32. In the reply, Mills Jones took two wickets as Warwickshire claimed the win.
Cheshire just proved too strong for the Under 16s in two T20 games at Wem – but both games were close.
In the first, Shropshire batted first and made 141-7 from their 20 overs with Parry hitting 58 off 36 balls and Crann unbeaten on 33. Cheshire reached their victory target with three balls to spare for the loss of three wickets.
The second game was even closer as Shropshire again batted first and made 155-3, Mills Jones unbeaten on 76, Parry hitting 30 and Parton 27.
In the reply, Constance Worle claimed 2-27 as Cheshire hit a boundary of the final ball of their innings to claim the win by five wickets.
