Women’s XI claim two wins on the road
The long trip to Northumberland proved well worthwhile for Shropshire’s Women’s XI as they returned with two more wins in their T20 Vitality Blast League 3 Division 2B campaign.
It leaves them top of their group after the latest round of games.
In the first game of the day, Shropshire skipper Lara Jones won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first who got off to a solid start with a 53-run opening partnership.
But then Jones got to work taking 3-11 from her four overs supported by Ruby Wardle’s 2-14 and Northumberland were restricted to 120-7.
In the reply Libby Thomas (30) and Olivia Smith (45 from 40 balls) set up the run chase and Millie Parry hit an unbeaten 21 from 17 deliveries as Shropshire claimed the victory with nine balls to spare.
In the second game of the day, Shropshire were asked to bat first and Libby Thomas continued her fine form with 70 off 60 balls as Shropshire finished their 20 overs on 135-6.
Libby Snowdon chipped in with 20.
Harriet Shuker (2-11) then struck twice early on to reduce the hosts to 25-2 before Jones once again got to work with the ball, this time claiming an impressive 4-9 from her four overs to rip the heart out of the batting order.
Isabella Lawrence-Posso then chipped in two wickets to wrap up the innings as Northumberland were dismissed for 67.
Jones said: “It was great to get two more wins on the board and to be top of the league.
“Libby T and Liv batted superbly and were able to put the pressure on the opposition. We will look to continue with the strong performances in a couple of weeks against Cumbria.”
