Packed winter programme for Women & Girls cricket

It’s been a busy Autumn of Women & Girls cricket in Shropshire – and we’re looking forward to another packed programme in the New Year.

Congratulations to Shelton who claimed the title in the Strategic Leisure Indoor Softball League held at Shrewsbury School in the Autumn beating Pontesbury in the final.

Bomere Heath and Shrewsbury were the other teams to make it to Finals Night after finishing in the top two of their groups during the regular season.

Also taking part this year were Condover, Willey, Forton, Wem, Oswestry, Allscott Heath, Ellesmere and Broseley.

Cricket Shropshire Female Cricket Development Coach Shannon Aston said: “Congratulations to Shelton on their win, and well done to all who took part in this year’s competition. It’s great to see so many getting involved this year.”

The new year will see another Indoor Softball competition taking place at Walford College from the end of January.

This league will be played as a T6 format – a progressions from pairs cricket – and there are still spaces available on Monday nights from January 26.

There is also one space available for the Wrekin College Indoor Softball League being played in the New year starting Thursday, January 8, and two spaces to fill in the Wrekin College Hardball League which starts in February.

If anyone is interested they can contact Cricket Shropshire Women & Girls’ Officer Naomi Payne via naomi.payne@cricketshropshire.co.uk or Shannon via shannon.aston@cricketshropshire.co.uk

There will also be a female only Introduction to Umpiring Course on Sunday, March 1, at Sundorne Games Hall in Shrewsbury from 9.30am-4.30pm. Bookings can be made via the link HERE.

Cricket Shropshire has also recently staged two end of season meetings – one at Shrewsbury CC and one at Shifnal CC – bringing everyone involved in the Women & Girls’ game in Shropshire together.

This gave everyone a chance to reflect on the successes and challenges of the past season and share ideas and priorities for 2026.

Naomi said: “Thank you to everyone who contributed – your input helps shape the future of the game in Shropshire for women and girls.”

One new competition is planned for 2026 – the 100-ball Anna Shore Memorial Cup.

This is a new competition open to all teams whether they are new or established hardball outfits with Cricket Shropshire looking to send out and Expressions of Interest form soon – look out for more details.

If anyone has any questions they can contact either Naomi or Shannon via the email adresses above.
