Pupils shine at cricket festival

Coaches from Cricket Shropshire were delighted to deliver another action-packed day of cricket on behalf of Telford & Wrekin School Sport Partnership at Telford Tennis Centre.

Through the morning and afternoon sessions, pupils from Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a lively mix of skills, games and mini-matches, all designed to build confidence, teamwork and a love of the game.

A lovely part of the day was seeing so many schools who already enjoy Chance to Shine coaching at their schools.

Miss Smith from Muxton Primary said: “It’s A very engaging, inclusive and brilliant event. Our children loved it, and the Chance to Shine sessions in school clearly make a difference.”

Mr Lewis from Old Park Primary said: “The kids absolutely love it. Just getting out to represent the school means so much. Some children who usually find things difficult have been fantastic today. They love the engagement with Ryan in school; the sessions are brilliant.”

“Not many of our children do much outside of school, but the Chance to Shine sessions have really inspired them. They want to play more cricket and come to more events like this. It’s great to do something different to football.”

Chris from Sir Alexander Fleming said: “We attend all the events because they’re superb. The delivery in school is outstanding, and everything the children are doing today is because of what they’ve learnt in their Chance to Shine sessions. The coaches are amazing.”

Chloe Price from Teagues Bridge Primarty School said: “The pupils are eager to win, showing great sportsmanship, listening carefully to the rules and working so well together. Their communication as a team has been brilliant, they’ve loved the event.”

Eleanor Hughes from St Georges said: “The atmosphere is brilliant, and the sports leaders from Charlton have been fantastic. The children haven’t done cricket before, and they’ve loved it and they now want to play it in school.”

Crudgington and Priorslee also attended, continuing their ongoing engagement with our cricket programmes.

Cricket Shropshire Development Administrator Vanessa Russell said: “This festival was another great example of what can be achieved when Cricket Shropshire and the Telford & Wrekin School Sport Partnership work closely together.

“Many of the schools joined the festival because they already benefit from Chance to Shine coaching — and this event showed just how far that enthusiasm and skill development can grow.

“The pupils were brilliant, the atmosphere was full of energy, and the progression from school sessions to festival performance was clear to see.”
